Red Door Gallery
Red Door Gallery is on Caroline Street in Old Town, next door to Pepe's Cafe and a short walk from the Historic Seaport. Pepe's has been in business since 1909 and is the oldest restaurant in Key West, which makes it the easiest landmark in town to navigate by: find Pepe's, and the gallery is right there.
It is a small, owner-run gallery rather than a large commercial space. The work is island and Caribbean in subject, Key West scenes alongside brightly colored paintings of island life in a deliberately primitive style, by local artists including the owner. Prices are set to be taken home rather than crated and shipped, which makes this a realistic stop for someone who wants an actual painting by a Key West artist instead of a print from a rack.
If you are already walking Caroline Street for the seaport or for breakfast, it costs you nothing to look in.
