Reef Relief Environmental Center

Reef Relief is one of the Florida Keys' most vital environmental nonprofit organizations, founded and headquartered in Key West to protect and restore the coral reef ecosystem that defines the region's natural identity and economic vitality through science-based advocacy, community education, and hands-on conservation programs. The Reef Relief Environmental Center at 631 Greene Street in the Historic Seaport is open to visitors, school groups, and community members free of charge, featuring a detailed diorama comparing a healthy reef and a damaged coral reef, live underwater webcam streams from locations around the world, daily screenings of the film "Waters of Wonder," and a small theater showing films about coastal resource issues — an immersive experience that turns casual visitors into informed reef advocates. Beyond the Environmental Center, Reef Relief manages the Key West Marine Park at Higgs Beach — one of the only locations in Key West where visitors can snorkel from shore and encounter coral and marine life — runs the award-winning Plastic Free 305 certification program for local businesses, organizes mangrove cleanup events, and offers the beloved Discover Coral Reefs School Program and Coral Camp for Kids each spring and summer. As the organization responsible for Plastic Free 305, Reef Relief has certified dozens of Key West businesses committed to eliminating single-use plastics and protecting the marine environment that makes the Florida Keys one of the most extraordinary places on earth.
