Cast a line for a great cause at the annual Casting for Cats Backcountry Fishing Tournament, a longtime Upper Keys tradition combining friendly competition, community spirit, and support for local animal welfare.
Founded in 2001 as a one-day ladies’ fishing event, the tournament has grown into a popular community fundraiser benefiting Casting for Cats, a nonprofit organization that supports spay and neuter programs and helps provide care for feral cats throughout the Florida Keys.
The 2026 tournament kicks off at Islander Resort and continues throughout the weekend with backcountry fishing, tournament activities, social events, and an awards celebration.
Today, the event welcomes an even broader community of anglers with ladies’, co-ed, and junior divisions, giving participants of different ages and experience levels an opportunity to get out on the water, enjoy some friendly competition, and support an important local cause.
