Certified Bike Helmet Fitter Training (Key Largo)

Thursday, November 5, 2026, noon to 2:00 p.m.

The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County offers a hands-on training that certifies participants to properly fit bicycle helmets for children and adults. Agencies and individuals are both invited. The training is free to all participants.

The session covers proper helmet sizing and fitting technique, and shows certified fitters how to obtain free bike helmets and distribute them in their own communities. Helmets are supplied through the Florida Pedestrian and Bicycle Resource Center at no charge to recipients.

Monroe County has one of the highest rates of bicycling activity in Florida along with among the highest bicycle fatality rates in the state, and DOH-Monroe runs the fitter program with local law enforcement and city governments to bring that number down. The September 2025 round certified 26 people drawn from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Key Colony Beach Police Department and Monroe County School District Head Start.

Registration closes 24 hours before the session. Email [Ivona.Coleman@FLHealth.gov](mailto:Ivona.Coleman@FLHealth.gov) to reserve a spot.

A second session runs Friday, November 6 at the Gato Building in Key West.
