Crafts & Conservation at Green Turtle Hammock

Crafts & Conservation at Green Turtle Hammock

Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Florida Bay Forever turns its Green Turtle Hammock Nature Preserve into a four hour celebration of local authors, local artists and the bay that ties them together. Crafts & Conservation is free and open to everyone.

The afternoon centers on The Chain, a collection of local Keys stories published by Palmheart Press that benefits Florida Bay Forever. There will be live readings from the book and signed copies available on site.
Alongside the readings, a silent auction of work by local artists runs through the afternoon, and interactive craft stations invite guests to make something from recycled materials and native plants. The idea is to show how creativity, education and community involvement can help protect and restore the natural places people here call home.

Green Turtle Hammock Nature Preserve sits at 81224 Overseas Highway in Islamorada and is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a flat loop trail of less than half a mile through tropical hardwood hammock and a kayak launch on the bay side. Florida Bay Forever is a grassroots 501(c)(3) that formed in 2016 after a seagrass die off affected roughly 40,000 acres of Florida Bay.

Note that a free guided bird walk led by the Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center takes place at the same preserve that morning at 8:30 a.m., so the two can be paired into one visit.
