Distinguished Speaker Series: The 14th Colony, The American Revolution’s Best Kept Secret

Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Key West Art & Historical Society brings historian and author Dr. Roger Smith to Williams Hall for a Distinguished Speaker Series lecture on what the Society calls the most under-told story in our nation’s history.

The Revolution is usually framed through the northern colonies. Florida, British at the time, played a different role entirely, and the irony Smith returns to is that the history is least known in the place where it happened.

Smith is the author of The 14th Colony: George Washington’s Planned Invasions and speaks on Florida’s Revolutionary history through Florida Humanities.

Tickets are $13 to $17. Williams Hall is at 729 Fleming Street in Old Town.
