Don Hawley Tarpon Fly Tournament
Don Hawley Invitational Tarpon Fly Tournament returns to Islamorada June 1–5, 2026, continuing one of the Florida Keys’ most respected traditions in fly fishing. Founded in 1975 to honor legendary angler Don Hawley, this prestigious invitational tournament brings together elite anglers and experienced guides to pursue the famed tarpon—often called the “Silver King”—in the shallow waters of Florida Bay and the surrounding Keys. Competing teams earn points for each tarpon measuring at least four feet that is successfully caught and released under strict fly-fishing regulations, including the use of 12-pound tippet in accordance with International Game Fish Association rules.
Over five days of competition, anglers battle for the title of Grand Champion, awarded to the team with the highest point total, with their names engraved on the tournament’s historic perpetual trophy displayed at Florida Keys Outfitters in Islamorada. The event also supports the Guides Trust Foundation, which provides assistance to Florida Keys fishing guides and promotes conservation of the region’s fisheries and marine resources.
