Fall Lecture Series: The 14th Colony, The American Revolution’s Best Kept Secret

Wednesday, November 11, 2026. Social hour at 5:00 p.m., lecture at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Roger Smith brings The 14th Colony to the Florida Keys

History & Discovery Center, on what he calls the American Revolution’s best kept secret.

The premise is that the Revolution gets told through the northern colonies while Florida, then a British possession, played a part almost nobody learns. Smith wrote the book on it, The 14th Colony: George Washington’s Planned Invasions, and speaks on the subject through Florida Humanities.

The timing is deliberate enough to note: the lecture falls on Veterans Day.

Free for members, $10 for non-members, at 82100 Overseas Highway on the grounds of the Islander Resort.
