Key Largo SCUBAPRO + Mote Community Coral Reef Full Dive Restoration Program

Saturday, November 7, 2026, in Key Largo. Go beyond observing the reef and experience the science behind its recovery during Mote Marine Laboratory’s Community Coral Reef Full Dive Restoration Program.

This hands-on program introduces participants to Mote’s science-based approach to coral restoration. On land, participants learn about coral microfragmentation, a technique pioneered by Mote that involves carefully cutting corals into small fragments and mounting them for continued growth in a controlled nursery environment. Participants also get an up-close look at Mote’s land-based coral nursery and the research used to support resilient coral populations.

The experience then moves to the water, where qualified divers may participate in restoration activities such as maintaining underwater coral nurseries and monitoring coral health. Specific dive activities and locations depend on current restoration needs, weather, and water conditions.

The program is based at Mote’s Key Largo Coral Nursery at Reefhouse Resort & Marina, 103800 Overseas Highway. The facility is Key Largo’s first and only land-based coral nursery and can accommodate up to 20,000 coral fragments, supporting restoration efforts at Upper Keys reefs including Carysfort Reef, Grecian Rocks, and French Reef.

Participants should review current diver certification, equipment, registration, and program requirements before reserving their space. Advance registration is required.
