Lecture Series: The 14th Colony with Dr. Roger Smith
Wednesday, November 11, 2026. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the lecture begins at 6:00 p.m.
The Florida Keys History and Discovery Center continues its 2026-2027 lecture season with Dr. Roger Smith presenting “The 14th Colony: The American Revolution’s Best Kept Secret.” The talk covers Florida’s role in the Revolution, a chapter that ran very differently from the thirteen colonies to the north and is little known even within the state where it happened.
Dr. Smith holds a doctorate in Early American History from the University of Florida, where he is an adjunct professor. He serves as onboard historian and lecturer for American Cruise Lines, is a former board member of the Florida Council for History Education, and worked as a consultant on the AMC series Turn.
Tickets are $10 and admission is free for members. A cash bar and light appetizers are available during the 5:00 p.m. social hour before the talk. Registration is at keysdiscovery.com.
The center is at mile marker 82 on the grounds of the Islander Resort in Islamorada. The lecture season is sponsored by the Islander Resort.
