REEF Science Saturdays: Rays
REEF’s Science Saturdays series turns to rays this week at the Ocean Exploration Center in Key Largo. The session covers ray biology, ecology and the habitats they use, including the waters of the Florida Keys, and closes with a hands-on activity on how rays feed, survive and fit into the wider marine ecosystem.
The lesson is free and built for all ages, so families can drop in without booking. It runs in the center’s Science Discovery Classroom.
The Reef Environmental Education Foundation opened the Ocean Exploration Center in June 2025. It sits in the median at mile marker 98.3, reached by Bahama Road, and combines science, history and art across its exhibits and the surrounding REEF Campus, which includes a Native Plants and Heritage Trail and the Reefscape Room. General admission to the center is free, with donations encouraged.
