Science Saturdays: Invasive Species - Lionfish

Join REEF for a free community science lesson and activity in the Science Discovery Classroom. This week covers the spread of the invasive lionfish in the Florida Keys and how it has impacted the ecosystem.

Lionfish are one of the Keys' most talked about underwater problems, beautiful to look at and genuinely destructive to native reef life, and REEF has been at the center of the response for years. This is the short, free, plain-language version of that story.

Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Science Saturdays run weekly at 11:00 a.m. with a different topic each week.

The class is held at the REEF Ocean Exploration Center at 98380 Overseas Highway, in the median at mile marker 98.3 off Bahama Road. The center is free to visit during regular hours, open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with self-guided exploration and stories of science, history and the arts.
