Sloan Centennial Flag Display at the Key West Firehouse Museum

July 2–4, 2026 | 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

The Alex Vega Key West Firehouse Museum will display the Sloan Centennial Flag, a rare 13-star American flag believed to have been created for the nation's 1876 Centennial celebration. Preserved by six generations of the Sloan family, the flag has not been publicly displayed since America's Bicentennial in 1976. Visitors can view the historic 12-by-18-foot flag at the museum, located at 1024 Grinnell Street in Key West. The display highlights a unique connection between Key West history and America's 250th anniversary, as the flag's original owner, David Livingston Sloan, served with the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, known for its Civil War service in Key West and at Fort Taylor. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated.
