Sumi-e: Expressive Ink Art with Masumi Sakagami

Explore the expressive and meditative world of sumi-e in this guided workshop with artist Masumi Sakagami, where participants will learn the foundations of traditional East Asian ink painting through demonstration, practice, and independent work time. Emphasizing simplicity, gesture, and the power of each brushstroke, the session introduces techniques that capture form and feeling using only black ink. Suitable for all skill levels, this immersive experience highlights the philosophy behind the art form as much as the technique, encouraging mindfulness and creative expression. Held in the Kat in the Hat Classroom, sessions run from 10 AM–12 PM or 1–3 PM at $65 per session, with all materials—including ink, brushes, and rice paper—provided.
