SALT Gallery
Salt Island Provisions is Laura Richardson's shop on Simonton Street, and the idea behind it is that art and food both count as things the Keys make. On one side there is work by Florida Keys artists, from established names to people showing for the first time: jewelry, pottery and ceramics, fine art and fine craft, books and gifts. On the other there are provisions, which is where the name comes from. Locally harvested sea salts, including a key lime version, wild island honey, spices, coffee and wine.
It is a good answer to the hardest souvenir problem, which is finding something that is both genuinely from here and small enough to get home. A jar of local salt or honey does that as well as a print does, and the shop treats both with the same seriousness rather than filing one under gift.
Because the roster of artists turns over, what is on the shelves changes, and the stock is small-batch by nature. Check the hours before you walk over, and ask what has just come in.
