Charcoal Portrait Drawing with Shannon Martin Perkins

Wednesdays, November 4, 11 and 18, and December 2, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. Develop your portrait drawing skills during a four-session course with local artist and instructor Shannon Martin Perkins (SHAN) at The Studios of Key West.

Designed for all experience levels, the course introduces fundamental portrait drawing techniques through instructor demonstrations, guided practice, and hands-on exercises. Participants will work from photographs to create detailed portraits, choosing a favorite person, family member, friend, or even a well-known icon as their subject.

Throughout the course, SHAN will guide students through the process of observing and translating facial features onto paper while developing the techniques needed to create expressive, recognizable portraits.

All materials are provided. Tuition is $200, including a $25 materials fee. Classes take place at The Studios of Key West, 533 Eaton Street in Key West, and advance registration is required.

Whether you are picking up a pencil for the first time or looking to strengthen your portraiture skills, this four-week course offers a welcoming environment to practice, experiment, and bring a face to life on paper.
