Forward-Facing Sonar in Florida Bay
Friday, November 6, 2026, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Join anglers, fishing guides, scientists, conservation professionals, and community members for an evening exploring forward-facing sonar and its potential implications for fisheries and fair-chase fishing in the Florida Keys.
Forward-facing sonar provides anglers with real-time underwater imagery, allowing users to locate and track individual fish and observe their movements. As the technology becomes increasingly sophisticated, it has prompted conversations within fishing communities about its use, fisheries management, conservation, and evolving ideas of fair chase.
The discussion will be led by Andrew Jordan, a University of Miami marine biology master’s student and Florida Bay Forever intern. The gathering is designed to bring together different perspectives and encourage thoughtful conversation about how emerging fishing technologies intersect with the future of Florida Bay and its fisheries.
The event is open to guides, recreational anglers, scientists, conservation organizations, and anyone interested in the health and future of Florida Keys fisheries.
The gathering takes place at Safe Harbor Angler House, 80500 Overseas Highway in Islamorada.
Come learn about the technology, hear perspectives from across the fishing and conservation communities, and take part in a conversation about the future of fishing in the Florida Keys.
