Guided Walks Through a Hardwood Hammock at Green Turtle Hammock

Friday, October 16, 2026, with two guided walks offered that morning. Discover the natural side of Islamorada during a guided exploration of the Green Turtle Hammock Nature Preserve with Florida Bay Forever.

Walk beneath a canopy of native trees while learning about the plants, wildlife, and ecology of the tropical hardwood hammock, one of the distinctive habitats found throughout the Florida Keys. Guides help participants take a closer look at the natural environment and the connections between the hammock and neighboring Florida Bay.

The walk follows a flat loop trail of less than 0.4 miles and takes approximately one hour, making it an accessible outdoor experience for participants of all ages. Bring water, binoculars, comfortable walking shoes, and plenty of curiosity.

The walks are offered free of charge by Florida Bay Forever, with donations welcomed to support the nonprofit organization’s conservation and educational work.

Green Turtle Hammock Nature Preserve is located at 81224 Overseas Highway in Islamorada.

Spend a morning beneath the hammock canopy and discover the plants, wildlife, and natural landscapes that make the Upper Keys unique.
