Early Bird Cleanup Hosted by Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center

Every Friday from 8 to 9 a.m. Give back to Key West while enjoying some fresh air during the Plogging the Keys Early Bird Cleanup, a weekly volunteer effort that brings the community together to remove litter and help keep the island beautiful.

Each Friday, volunteers meet at a different location around Key West for a one-hour cleanup. Locations and community hosts change from week to week, giving participants an opportunity to lend a hand in different neighborhoods and areas throughout the island.

No previous experience is required, and cleanup supplies are provided, including gloves, litter pickers, buckets, safety vests, and hand sanitizer. Volunteers should bring plenty of water, dress appropriately for the weather, and wear closed-toed shoes.

Plogging the Keys is part of Keep Key West Beautiful, a community initiative focused on litter prevention, sustainability, and beautification. In addition to the regular Friday cleanups, volunteer opportunities may occasionally be offered on Saturdays or scheduled for groups on other days.

The rotating format makes the Early Bird Cleanup an easy voluntourism opportunity for visitors as well as a regular way for residents to give back. Because the meeting location changes each week, participants should confirm the current cleanup location before attending.

Spend an hour giving back, meet members of the Key West community, and help keep the Southernmost City clean and beautiful one cleanup at a time.
