Holidays in the Keys
Maybe it’s because the Florida Keys—the southernmost islands in the continental U.S.—have never known a traditional white Christmas. Or maybe it’s just that locals here love any excuse to celebrate.
Whatever the reason, despite our subtropical climate, we fully embrace the holiday spirit—often going delightfully overboard with decorations and festivities. (If you’ve ever seen a 10-foot inflatable reindeer perched proudly on a houseboat, you know exactly what we mean.) From light displays to lively events, the Keys dive headfirst into the season with joy and plenty of island flair.
In fact, from Key Largo to Key West, the December calendar is packed with events designed to spread seasonal cheer — including lighted boat parades featuring everything from kayaks to historic tall ships adorned with Christmas trees, multicolored lights and whatever other decorations their crews can dream up.
