I.CARE Coral Restoration & Education

Help bring Islamorada’s coral reefs back to life with I.CARE — Islamorada Conservation and Restoration Education, a community-driven program that gives locals and visitors an opportunity to take part in hands-on reef conservation.

Working with local dive shops and operators, I.CARE connects volunteers with coral restoration, reef education, and stewardship experiences in the waters surrounding Islamorada. Divers can learn restoration techniques and participate in activities such as outplanting and maintaining corals on local reefs, turning a day beneath the surface into a meaningful contribution to the marine environment.

You don’t have to be an experienced diver to get involved. Snorkelers and non-divers can also support the mission through educational programs and surface-based opportunities, making reef conservation accessible to people with a variety of experience levels.

Education is an important part of I.CARE’s work. Participants learn about the challenges facing coral reefs, the science behind restoration, and the actions that can help these fragile ecosystems recover. By connecting people directly with conservation efforts, the program helps create informed reef advocates who can carry what they learn far beyond their time in the Keys.

Whether you’re an experienced diver hoping to give your bottom time a greater purpose or a curious visitor eager to learn more about the underwater world, I.CARE offers a rewarding way to experience Islamorada while giving back.
