Iconic Reef Guardians Coral Health Experience with Southpoint Divers

Tuesday, September 22, Sunday, September 27, and Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Turn a Key West dive into an opportunity to contribute to coral reef science during an Iconic Reef Guardians Coral Health Experience with Southpoint Divers.

Part of the Iconic Reef Guardians program supporting Mission: Iconic Reefs in Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, the experience gives recreational divers an opportunity to learn how scientists monitor coral health and collect observations that can contribute to ongoing reef research and restoration efforts.

Before entering the water, participants receive training on how to recognize and document signs of coral bleaching, disease, paling, and overall health. During the dive, participants slow down and take a closer look at individual corals, recording observations about their condition, color, and structure on an underwater slate.

Following the dive, participants can submit their observations to a public coral-health database, helping researchers build a broader picture of changing conditions along Florida’s reefs.

The experience is offered through Southpoint Divers, 606 Front Street in Key West, with advance reservations required. Participants should confirm current certification, equipment, and dive requirements when booking.
