Twenty-seven local artists rent individual stalls across two floors here, and each one works the floor five hours a week, so the person selling you a painting is often the person who painted it. The gallery has occupied the same Duval Street building since 1976.

Maggie Ruley has been painting Key West since the mid-1980s, starting from a corner of Blue Heaven. Her Fleming Street studio is open ten-ish to five-ish most days, and she is usually in it, working.

Amanda Johnson paints the Keys in oil, in the studio and outdoors, in a tropical impressionist style built on gold leaf, sunsets and the island's roosters. Trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League of New York, she has worked in Key West since opening her first gallery here in 2012.

Art classes in a Whitehead Street studio a short walk from the Hemingway Home, working in watercolor, acrylic and mixed media. The studio also takes commissions, including pet portraits and murals.

An artists' guild founded in 1966, now more than a hundred members strong, running six shows a year at venues across the Upper Keys. Most of it happens November through April, so time your visit if you want to catch something.

Taylor Hale is a Keys native who trained at Ringling and RISD, painted portraits in New England, then came home and started painting the sunset clouds he watched from his shifts at Morada Bay. His studio is tucked behind the Florida Keys Brewing Co. beer garden in the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District.
